Who We Are:

Who We Are:

We are mainline evangelical church working to proclaim the Good News of Jesus Christ as the Savior of the World. We strive to share God’s love by creating safe places where all are accepted and welcomed, connecting the needs of people to the presence of God and transforming the world through Christ.

What we believe:

We Believe:

  • That the Bible is the inspired and written word of God, infallible and authoritative.
  • We believe in the Trinity; God eternally existing in three persons: namely, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost.
  • That Jesus Christ is the only begotten of the Father, conceived of the Holy Ghost, and born of the Virgin Mary. That Jesus was crucified, buried, and raised bodily to heaven and is today at the right hand of the Father as intercessor.
  • That all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.
  • That justification, regeneration, and the new birth are obtained by faith through the precious blood of Jesus Christ
  • That holiness is to be God’s standard of living for His people.

Our Goals:

We have enormous and untapped potential. Our goal in the short term is to revive all departments of the church and focus on outreach/evangelism to bring in new members. This I intend doing through pastoral visitations and church organized outreach programs in the community. Allied to this is the teaching and holding of spiritual emphasis programs to ensure spiritual growth of members. Secondly, our goal is to serve as an example to the flock by living a life of integrity, honesty, virtue and above reproach. In the medium term, the goal is work with the church administration to get the church focus on its mission and vision.

Mission Statement

Our mission is to equip believers to become disciples; nurture them to be matured and fruitful in the Lord through prayer, bible study, fellowship and service

Our Core Values

Our core values remain the same as the New York Annual conference United Methodist Church. “values that drive us are deep love for God and unconditional love for all people. We value collaboration and partnerships that demonstrate God’s love to a world that divides and alienates.  We value relationships that foster accountability, excellence, and an ability to engage in open, honest, and respectful conversations.  We value the hope that we have in Christ that, when discovered, brings us a unity of purpose, a joy that enlivens our spirit, and a peace that surpasses all understanding.”

In closing, our Father has provided us with so many blessings, and our congregation has certainly responded with all our hearts. Let’s preserve the unity of the church and be fully inclusive in the midst of our diversity. While our church continues to face any challenges, we stand together in Christ and trust in Christ alone to provide. We must continue to stand together and do our best to keep up with prayers and fasting.

I’m thankful and privileged to have served as the pastor-in-charge at Derby UMC. The support and love that I have felt from the congregation has been truly appreciated. And I’m certainly blessed to be part of the Derby UMC family.

As we march toward another year of vibrant ministry, I encourage all of us to pay great attention to the Apostle Paul’s exhortation in Romans 16: 17 “I urge you, brothers and sisters, to watch out for those who cause divisions and put obstacles in your way that are contrary to the teaching you have learned. Keep away from them.”
